My Mission Statement
I aim to foster a caring, safe and positive learning environment for your child.
As your child's Performing Arts Teacher, I will endeavour to ensure that all students feel comfortable and confident in both their social and academic development. This year all children will be encouraged to work to their full potential, ensuring they achieve maximum individual performance.
My passion for The Arts drives my thirst for engaging students (and teachers’) in a classroom environment that is rich in experiences, movement, communication and teamwork.
I am currently running a WA trial program for Australian Theatre for Young People called 'on Demand Plus. for the second year in a row This resource supports teachers to deliver curriculum through Drama skills and processes. Subject areas which this program is integrated with are: English, Health, History and Science.
I have previously worked with Barking Gecko Theatre Company in 2019. Becoming one of the first teacher’s in Western Australia to trial Barking Gecko’s ‘School Drama’ Program. This program also helped to support teachers deliver lessons using Drama skills and processes throughout the curriculum.
My more recent work has been developing and writing an educational program to work alongside Barking Gecko's production of HOUSE. These teacher resources were shared with teachers around Western Australia and the eastern states.
It has always been my belief that embedding a kinaesthetic approach in the classroom is essential for quality teaching and learning. It has been found that students achieve higher results academically, have greater self-efficacy and have proven to work more collaboratively from exposure to Drama processes throughout the curriculum.
I am also passionate about Drama’s skills and processes not limiting itself to one specialist area. I believe ANY teacher, across ANY subject area, may use its skills to: engage, provoke and ensure a whole body learning experience for our children. “After all, as teachers we are actor’s upon our own classroom stage”.
The curriculum for The Arts is extensive and quite specific to your child’s year group. I encourage you to look on the Australian Curriculum website to view the outcomes.
I look forward to a happy and rewarding year, as we work together in positive partnership in encouraging your child to continued success in 2021.
