Harmony Day- Scratch Art Masks
A mask is an object normally worn on the face, typically for protection, disguise, performance, or entertainment. Masks have been used since antiquity for both ceremonial and practical purposes.
There are many different uses for masks in Drama or on stage as a prop/costume all around the world.
A mask can help us pretend to be in someone else's shoes. It can help us to connect with a character and their feelings when we wear it and act with it.

Harmony Day- In the form of Theatre Masks
Your task- to create a mask that reflects our theme from Harmony Day 'Everyone Belongs'.
Everyone has a story. In order for us to understand each other, sometimes we need to be able to pretend to be someone else 'in character', to explore someones point of view, their feelings and the reasons behind their actions.
Today, you will use the scratch sticks to separate your mask into 6-8 sections. You will be using an artform known as 'zentangles'. This form of artwork is repeated pattern artwork.
You will choose patterns that reflect 'harmony'. The images may be repeated animals, patterns or symbols that reflect 'harmony'.
I would like you to think about what helps to make Australia (our home) harmonious for its' citizens....Can you think of any ideas that contribute to this?
